Barbie by the beach in her new swimsuit
It’s perfect summer weather here in Dublin right now – so no better time to share these photos of a new Barbie swimsuit! I adore the structure of 1950’s swimwear, and I was very influenced by 1950s evening dresses too. I knew I wanted to incorporate design elements from both into my new collection of Barbie clothes.
My favourite 1950s colour combination is dusky pink and black, they just go so well together, and this vintage fabric really works well in this design.
This Barbie vintage style swimsuit is made from proper vintage raw silk, probably not the best for a dip in the sea but oh so chic on the beach! The sea water would ruin her hair too……so maybe I should call this beachwear, not swimwear??
The bodice is fitted and then gathered over the bust, finished off with a tiny black ribbon and bow detail. It’s fully lined too, for a smoother finish.
As you can see, vintage Barbie doll clothes are so small, sometimes I think I need a microscope to finish the pieces!
But for now, back to the beach for me…
It’s another mini masterpiece! And maybe silk should have a resurgence as beachwear… It would be so much cooler on those sticky summer days! 😀
