On the north Mayo coast on the Wild Atlantic Way lies the fantastic Ceide Fields, the most extensive Stone Age monument in the world. The wall in the background of the photo is 6000 years old. Yep, someone laid those stones 6000 years ago. The ruins lie under bogland and were uncovered in the 1930s by a local man digging peat, who noticed the rocks lying under the peat were in a formation and not haphazard, so he knew they must have been placed deliberately. There are extensive field networks and the tour is great so do stop here if you are along the Wild Atlantic Way, and the views over the cliffs are pretty amazing too!
And then onto Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery in County Sligo, the largest collection of megalithic tombs in Ireland, all about 5000 years old. There’s lots to see here too and again, a great tour.
The frock….dusky pink raw silk with a fitted bodice and skirt, short sleeves, and the neckline has a frill detail and tiny bow. I love this colour- it’s a real 1950s shade.
